History of the School
This school has been through three phases in its history.
Originally Narrabeen Sports High School began life as Narrabeen Boys High School and Narrabeen Girls High School. Classes at the Girls School began on 2/2/1954. The Official Opening was conducted in October 1962 by Robert Askin, the Member for Collaroy. He later become Premier of NSW and was knighted.
Following damage to the Boys' School a new comprehensive High School was built in the 1970s, and the current buildings date from this time. To celebrate this event a time capsule was prepared to show future generations what school life was like in the time of long hair and flares, for both boys and girls.
In the early 1990s, under the leadership of Principal Peter Funnell, a new direction was taken for Narrabeen High School. A new executive team replaced those who had retired, or moved to other schools, and the decision was made to utilise our location to become a Sports High School, the first in the State.
Today Narrabeen Sports High School continues the tradition of combining academic and sporting excellence. The opening of the new Indoor Sports Centre in 2001, is proof of the vital role Narrabeen Sports High School plays in the local community.
