Year 7 Music

The Music Faculty at our school is undergoing an exciting period of expansion. As well as our compulsory study of Music undertaken in Years 7 and 8, we also offer Elective Music to students in Years 9, 10 ,11 and 12. These programs are complemented by the availability of Music courses at the Open High School, to which our students have access.

While these study patterns are richly rewarding for our students, there are also new and challenging activities being implemented and they are described below.

NSHS Choir
Our newly formed choir is gathering in popularity and includes students who have sung in the Australian Girls' Choir. Their rehearsals and public performances are based on a contemporary repertoire and are performed in two and three part harmonies.

Music Tutoring Program
This program has been designed to both introduce and develop students' existing skills in the playing of instruments of their choice. The program is taught offline and is designed to cater for both one to one tutoring as well as small group activities. Emphasis is currently being placed on brass and woodwind instruments and we are working towards starting a concert band as soon as we can.
This program is open to all students at our school and will be offered to K-6 students from our feeder Primary Schools.

Rock Band
Our newly formed rock band presently consists of Year 11 and 12 students. In their first performance at a recent charity concert the audience was most impressed by their repertoire of original and cover material.

Rock Eisteddfod/Dance
After a few years in hibernation our RE program has exploded again. The RE comprises of Music, Dance and Drama and is proving very popular with students, staff and parents from all years.
