

Year 7 Subjects Index
In Year 7 all students follow the same course of study, which is designed to provide a wide range of experiences in all Key Learning Areas. Emphasis is placed on English, Mathematics, Science and the Humanities.
Although students are taught by different specialist subject teachers in specialist rooms, they remain in the same class groupings throughout the year. This provides a degree of stability and assists new students to settle into High School routine.
Class sizes generally will be about twenty, well below the usual class size of thirty. Practical classes such as Visual Arts and Design and Technology have groupings appropriate for the practical aspects of the subjects.
The school day is divided into five x sixty minute lessons with recesses between periods 2 and 3 and with forty minute lunch break between periods 4 and 5. The school cycle consists of a total of fifty two periods over 10 days (2 weeks) for Years 7 and 8.
Students will study one language, chosen from French and German.
Design and Technology will help students gain knowledge of practical experiences in the selection and use of resources of the impact of design and technology on society and the environment. It will utilise specialist rooms and deal with areas including manufacturing food sciences, textiles, design and drawing, technics information and communications and distribution systems.
Students study computers as part of the Technology and Learning course and then apply these skills to other subjects, where appropriate. In this way, it is intended that students see computers as "tools of their education" rather than ends in themselves. A computer component is included as part of the Design and Technology course.
In Year 7 students are introduced to a variety of sports by specialist PE Staff. All students are taught basic skills in these sports. Students in the Targeted Sports Program will have 2 periods of their sport program for their chosen sport.
