NSHS Snr Boys Soccer Make School History.
Narrabeen's Senior Boys Soccer team has just finished competing in the NSW Puma Cup State Knock-Out Competition for 2006. The team achieved an historical milestone by being the first senior boys football team to make it to a state final.
The team played in the 6 team Sports High School Round Robin against Endeavour Sports(2-0 win), Illawarra Sports(7-0 win), Westfields Sports(0-1 loss), Hunter Sports(2-1 win) and Hills Sports(3-1 win). The results put Narrabeen in 2nd place in this competition with the top 2 teams proceeding to the State KO Semi-finals to meet the top 2 comprehensive high schools from the various regional knock-outs.
Narrabeen and Westfields Sports High Schools were matched up against Macquarie Fields and Keira High Schools respectively. Westfields steamrolled Keira 5-0 in their semi-final. Narrabeen had a much tougher opponent and although having many scoring opportunities failed to capitalize and were pegged back to 2-2 right on fulltime. The goals being scored by Jed Prater and Gareth Bevan. Narrabeen regrouped in golden goal extra time and quickly scored the winner through a great individual goal from Andrew Christiansen.
The following night, Narrabeen put in a herculean effort in defence against the star studded Westfields team. Although under immense pressure for most of the game, the boys were able to keep themselves in the game right up until the final whistle going down only 2-1 which meant they were State Runners Up for 2006, an amazing effort! The goalscorer in the final was Andrew Christiansen. All of the team put in a fantastic effort in the final, but special mention to Jonathan Faerber who was superb in the goals. MVP for the season was Jed Prater.
Special thanks to our exchange students from Brazil and Germany who helped out the team when we were short with injuries during the season! The 2006 finals squad was as follows: Jonathan Faerber(C), Gareth Bevan(VC), Andrew Christiansen, George Janosevic, Justin Bowden, Robert King, Jed Prater, Massee Kazimi, Ricky Kissane, Sven Burger, Sebastian Ryall, Dene Hunter, Terry Lampard, Scott Sadler, Chris Payne, Sasha Macura and Sam Workman-Brown. Coach: Ron Delaney.
